Desire

I need one of these. Perfect for those late-night codewarrior sessions.

Actually, I don’t need one, I just really, really want one. I wonder if IWOOT have them in stock…

Limited company

Tuesday, June 10th, 2003

I didn’t realise that setting up a limited company was such a palaver!

I’ve managed to download all the forms, filled them in as far as I can (without the aid of solicitors, notaries and such) and got a shedload of other bumpf that I still need to wade through and make sure that I’m complying with all the necessary.

Setting up a bank account is proving to be a bit of a bitch too. It seems that I need to have a minimum of 2 grand at the outset (where the hell do I get this from?) before I can open an account.

It looks like the Co-operative Bank is my best bet on this front at the moment. They seems to have a pretty good deal for new businesses, and that’s something I really need at the moment, seeing as I don’t have oodles of cash just lying about (but I will check under the mattress, just in case I left a suitcase full of used tenners under there…)

Oh well, I may just go to one of those company set-up agents and bite the bullet (and pay the £200 odd quid they charge) rather than making my brain explode trying to deal with it all myself (which only costs £20, what a bargain!)

Blaagh!

Work, or perhaps more accurately ‘the chance of work’

Monday, June 2nd, 2003

Got a call today from an agency who I seem to have inadvertently submitted my CV to at some point in the past, who wanted to know if I was interested in having my CV submitted for a 3-month contract. Well, seeing as I shall be freelancing my little arse off at the end of the month, I thought, “why not”.

So, as one does with these things, I asked if it was a job or a contracting thing, and the nice woman at the other end said contracting. Cool. Then she asked me my hourly rate. Ok, seeing as I haven’t done this properly for a long while, I popped a number of the top of my head and said £30. She says fine. “FINE”?

By my calculations, and they’re not usually too far out, that ends up being about a grand a week or about £4k a month (untaxed) for a 35 hour week.

Not to be sniffed at… so I’m gonna do my CV tonight, just in case.

Now I just hope the work isn’t dull as dishwater… :-) Oh, and that I get it (or something similar!)

Right, off to Ikea.
