Testing, testing

Monday, April 26th, 2004

This is a test of the w.bloggar tool for quick blogs. If it works, I’ll be dead chuffed. :-)

Edit: It seems to work, although the XML-RPC for the categories isn’t enabled for WordPress. Ho hum.

Update: Yes they are, I selected the wrong option. However multiple categories are not supported.

Edit: And I’ve just upgraded to v1.20 of WordPress. Bleeding edge, here I am!

Update: Sweet…

On the absence of friends

Just spent a really good couple of hours with David who moved to Cardiff last year. It was really good to catch up, talk about stuff and look through some dodgy old photographs.

I miss you mate…

Fucking chav scum

Thursday, April 8th, 2004

What is this fucking world coming to? Can’t someone walk down the road without fucking retarded shithead ned scum assaulting them?

Ok, this evening I was walking home after a completely useless (ie no-one else turned up) web design meetup, and I thought I’d take a shortcut through Leith Links to the chippy to get myself a pizza before 24 came on.

At the end of the Links, there were about 10 or so kids, aged about 15-16, dossing around, being the uncultured and clueless neds that they are. Suddenly, two of them took exception to my blue hair, I expect it was more than their shared brain cell could handle, and followed me over the road to the chippy. After a few moments of idle (and fairly vapid) insults on their part, a third twat came over, then the three of them decided to jump me. Fuckers! Luckily I managed to pop into the chippy and the cowardly little fuckers ran off.

So now I have a thumping headache, a bruised chin and a fucked wrist. At least I was wearing a bag over my back and had my leather jacket on, otherwise it could have been worse.

And I don’t think taking them up on their invitation to “go back to the Links” would have resulted in a picnic and cheery photo opportunity.

The sooner these piss-poor excuses for humans are locked up (or if they re-introduce the death penalty, put to the gallows) as people like this should be, the better.

Now I’m just waiting for the police to show up, but they’re taking their time. Lucky I wasn’t stabbed…

Virus

Saturday, April 3rd, 2004

Oh great. I booted up my machine this morning, and found that at 9pm last night I’d become infected with the W32/Parite-B virus.

Fuck fuck fuckety fuck!

Now to spend half of the day cleaning up after the fucking thing. At least I can run the disinfection s/w in batch mode so that I can tart myself up and pop off to the pub later on and celebrate Gill’s birthday.

As if I didn’t have enough bloody computer problems recently.

On a not unrelated note, I’m now totally aware of how crap Windows is. Did you know that simply moving your mouse over an icon on your desktop or in an Explorer window forces Windows to make four (yes, four!) separate file accesses? No wonder virus spread so quickly! I managed to infect not only my browser (of choice - Firefox) and a few system services, but I also managed to infect some installers on my desktop without even fucking opening them!

The sooner I dump Windows altogether, the better.

I think I may have to run Gentoo with CrossOver sooner than I imagined.

P.S. I haven’t opened (or moused over!) my mail client (again, of choice - Thunderbird) so it won’t have been sent to anyone. Besides, I don’t use Outlook.

Jobs are like buses

Friday, April 2nd, 2004

You wait for ages, then three (or in this case - five) jobs come along at once. At least it’s nice to be able to pick and choose what I want to do.

Now, if only I can use my special powers to extend the working day by about 14 hours (and the weekend by 92, of course!)

New WGW site launched

Friday, April 2nd, 2004

The new WGW web site is now online with the information for April 2004.

I only received the information on Saturday and, as usual, have a day job to be getting on with.

A few pieces of information are missing, but nothing essential. I shall be updating the site in the next few days to fill in the blanks.

Also, finally, the official WGW LJ community, has been activated. We’ve had it for bloody ages, but never got around the using it. Bah!

Weblog upgrade to WordPress

Friday, April 2nd, 2004

As you may or may not have noticed, I’m in the process of moving the old Movable Type weblog into this brand spanking new WordPress weblog.

Pretty nifty, and a hell of a lot easier to use. I still need to configure it a bit more, but it’s looking good so far.
