Washing machines and flying saucers

Wednesday, May 26th, 2004

So we had a guy, who advertised in the local rag, come around to the flat and take a look-see at the washing machine. As I suspected, it was the “flying saucer thing” (in reality called a “pressure switch”) and its bracket that was goosed and needed to be replaced.

£34 for replacement parts and £30 for labour. And, because the parts are obscure, he asked me to send him the cost of the parts as a deposit.

*sigh*

As if I don’t fork out too much as it is for everything else.

On the up side, he did find a pound coin in the rubber seal around the fascia, which was a bonus — albeit a slightly tarnished one.

Fur trade and the Interweb

Thursday, May 20th, 2004

I’m happy to see that there’s a judge willing to rule that a slightly similarly named protest site doesn’t compare to the trademarks of a company that’s happy to kill animals and sell their fur for fashion.

Bastards.

43 Things

Sunday, May 16th, 2004

While trawling the world of Ruby on Rails, I reacquainted myself with one of the 37signals’ RoR web applications, 43 Things, so I thought I’d sign up and add my own.

Edit: I’ve also signed up for Tada Lists.
